Free Peridot Ring Contest
10 September 2007
I’m trying to make the world a better, or at least a more sparklier place by giving away a free piece of jewelry every week. I call this Random Acts of Bling. The winner can either keep the jewelry for themselves, or they can randomly give it away to someone like a waitress. To enter the contest, just read the rules & leave a comment, trackback, or link to a post on your blog about a random act of kindness or a reason why humanity doesn’t suck.
The prize this week is a genuine peridot cluster ring that weighs in at 1.35 tcw, marquise cut, size 7 set in sterling silver.
The rules are:
One entry per person per week.
Winner is drawn by a random number generator at 6pm Mountain Time on Friday.
Contestant should live in the lower 48 states because I’ll be paying shipping. This will mean that you’ll have to give me your mailing address, but I promise not to sell it or any other manner of ickiness.
Contestant should be over 18.
The idea behind this contest is to in some little way remind people that they are special & that good things can randomly happen to them. As such, please don’t sell this jewelry, hopefully it will make you or whoever you give it to feel special.
Links back to me, telling other people about this contest, stumbling or digging, are appreciated but not required.
Comment must be about a random act of kindness or reason why humanity doesn’t suck.
Thanks & good luck!

My husband and I saw this man sitting on the side of the road that said he was hungry and he would work for food. We went to the nearest restaurant and bought him a meal and took it to him. He was so grateful and I am so glad we did it.

My mother has been a bartender for 20 years. She has been a single mother housing two of her three children for the last 7 years with zero child support from my father.
She finally broke free from the horrible place of business she was very loyal to for the last 7 to move to a family owned bar right down the street from where she lives.
At the end of everynight, her new boss thanks her for working for him. Simply thanking her for her loyalty and care of the neighborhood bar that she now runs for him.
I have never been thanked by an employer in my life like this man does her. I can only imagine that after 20 years of doing a job that she doesn’t exactly get personal satisfaction from, how satisfying it must feel to finally have someone truly care about the job she does for them.

This ring is gorgeous! Me & my girls went shopping with my grandma. I always bring drinks & my grandma always brings tons of water. At the end of our trip, we saw a mom with 4 kids & they were all thirsty. The mom was having a hard time & was about to pay a lot of money for the vending machine. We gave her all our extra water & she was so happy. I love helping people out!

this may sound small, but it really made my day the other day. i was out grocery shopping with my baby (which in and of itself is a production) at the end of a long day… and by the time i got to the checkout, i was pretty tired. i do a LOT of shopping at once just to get it done with. i was at a store where you bag your own, but the checkout lady took one look at me and asked if i wanted help bagging. having dreaded the whole time packing up all my bags and taking them out to the car and having to unload them all while keeping my daughter happy… having that weight off my shoulders was such a big pick-me-up, and such a small thing for them…. but it made my day!

Ever since watching Oprah’s show one day seeing her handing out coupons and placing them on store shelves at grocery stores….. I had this “duh” moment and thought why didn’t i think of that before? LOL Just about every shopping trip I lay coupons out that I have no use for. I feel like the easter bunny laying out eggs for a hunt. hee hee
Just in the past year or so I’ve seen ALOT of coupons laying on store shelves that others have left now as well. Feels like the wheel of good karma is running strong!

On Valentine’s Day one year. I went to the local market and baught 3 doz. leftover pink carnations. That night I put one on the window of every car on one street. I never found out if it made anyone smile, but I think everyone should have a flower on Valentine’s Day!

My random act of kindness was to a woman that was cleaning the windows in my office building (3 stories). It was hot and I could see her climbing around on ledges and I was nervous for her. When she was done, I grabbed a bottle of water and took it to her and thanked her for doing that job.

I have had so many people do so many wonderful things for me and my family, the things that I have done for other people couldn’t even compare. I met my husband when I was 14 and he was 17 we are now 41 and 44. We have 5 kids. We have been thru a flood~~~a total loss house fire (no insurance)I was 9 mo. pregnant for our 4th child. My husband built our home with his bare hands. The Red Cross somehow got there before we did. We just went to rent movies on New Year’s Eve.~~ I broke my back in a bad car accident seven years ago in the month of June. Christmas rolls around and I am sitting at the table crying because we don’t have money to buy presents…and the phone rings..it is Grant Hospital where I spent a month or so after the accident wanting to know if it is ok for them to purchase gifts for our family. Like I said, I don’t think that there is anything that I could do that would compare to the wonderful things that people have done for me and my family. God Bless the Good in people!

I would just like to talk about my husband’s grandparent’s, who to me are truly angels on earth. They are always doing kind things for others, family, friends, acquaintances, people they don’t know, it doesn’t matter, but every story touches their heart and they always want to help. His grandma can barely get around, but she’s always working in the kitchen on her famous desserts to give to different functions’ bake sales. His grandfather is outside all day, working in his garden on vegetables he gives away to families in need- and he always seems to produce 10 times what you think would come out of that garden. They haven’t bought themselves new clothes in decades, but they are always buying school clothes and shoes for the kids whose parents can’t afford it. I could go on and on all day about all their good deeds, but mostly I just love them for being such sweet people, who welcomed me into the family with open arms. Well, at least after I proved to Mawmaw I could cook her Dame (my hubby) chicken fried steak- LOL
